Welcome to Department of Instrumentation engineering
Instrumentation engineering department established in 1988 with intake capacity of 60, had been conferred an academic autonomy from Government of Maharashtra in 1994. The department has qualified and experienced faculty, and well-equipped laboratories as per the requirement of AICTE and MSBTE. The department is engaged in providing the quality technical education and imparting Instrumentation technician skills to the students through continuous improvement in the curriculum and industry-institute interaction. Since 2019, the department has been running Sandwich pattern-based curriculum having one complete semester (6th semester) In-plant training to provide the exposure of actual industrial environment, industrial practices etc. to the students, and enrich their theoretical concepts, as well as practical skills to make them more employable. The teaching and learning process is carried out with modern teaching aids, expert lectures, and technical visits. The department has a good industry liaison. Many industries are contributing towards an overall development of department by means of participating in curriculum development process, in-plant training, conduction of expert lectures/seminars, evaluation of final year project work, etc. The department promotes the overall development of students through encouraging students to participate in various technical events, sports competitions, and societal/environmental activities. From 2023, the department is revising the new curriculum of Instrumentation engineering program as per National Education Policy (NEP-2020) recommendations.

It gives me immense pleasure and pride to lead the dynamic team of faculty (07) and staff (03) of Instrumentation Engineering department at Government Polytechnic, Mumbai (An Autonomous Institute of Government of Maharashtra) to achieve the excellence in technical education. The Instrumentation Engineering department is one of best department in Maharashtra to give opportunity to learn Instrumentation with state of art Laboratories. We started our journey from 1988 with intake of 60 students and providing excellent facility in diploma Instrumentation Engineering education consistently. Now we are running Sandwich pattern of education to improve the Industry Institute Interaction. It emphasizes on interaction with industry to train human resource before graduating. So that they ready with life skill to serve the society and Industry. This Sandwich pattern encourages /cultivates the collaborative kind of work culture between the Industry and Institute. The Sandwich pattern is useful to grab job opportunity to graduates and Industry to get the right kind of human resource. The diploma Instrumentation Engineer has ample opportunities in the Mumbai region. I conclude with words of Lord Kelvin a physicist; he said “When you cannot measure it, when you cannot express it in numbers your knowledge is of meagre and unsatisfactory kind”.
